Towards the end of the last century, in the winter, the descent from high mountains could hardly be managed otherwise than on skis. Charmingly designed in coloured-pencil technique, this 1916 poster by Albert Muret shows the descents of the Monks from the hospice on the Great St. Bernard Pass and advertises the Martigny-Orsières railway. A kind of funny but emotional historical testimony
